RSS (Really Simple Syndication and Rich Site Summary) is essentially a format for content distribution. RSS is Extensible Markup Language (XML), a way of sharing information across different information systems.

Webmasters create an RSS file that contains a brief version of information such as headlines, or short descriptions that lead to more information. End users and customers use RSS readers (aggregators) to gather their favorite feeds in one central location and this content is known as the RSS feed.
